Wow, I am having a really hard time comprehending the fact that my daughter is turning sixteen. I realize that this isn’t something that has come out of the blue, but when she was fourteen and fifteen, I think I was just always able to put the fact that she was right around the corner of turning sixteen in the very back of my mind. However, now that her birthday is less than two weeks away, there is no longer a way for me to hide from whatever is going to happen.
Even though I am excited for her and realize that this is a big moment in her life, I think it’s always hard as a parent to accept when your children get older. You can remember all of the great times that you had with them when they were younger, and thinking about them getting older just makes you think about the fact that it’s not that far away when they are going to be moving out of your house and into the real world on their own.
On a happier note, I know my daughter is going to be thrilled on her birthday, because I got the one gift that she wants more than anything: a car. I ended up buying a rental car for her that was only lightly used, so I know this will make me feel good knowing that she is as safe as possible on the road.
