Two months ago I hydroplaned my Toyota Celica into a concrete barrier driving down the interstate and completely totaled my car. Needless to say I was in the market for a new car and I was just going to go down to the local dealership and see if they had any decent used cars for sale. However, one of my coworkers recommended that instead of buying a used car, I should check out buying a rental car from one of the local rent a car joints.
At first I was like, why the heck would I want to buy a rental car? But I’m going to let you in on a little secret, buying a rental car can really save you a lot of money and you can get a really great car for one heck of a good deal. When you think about it, it totally makes sense. I would have thought that rental cars would be a total lemon, but the fact is, they are usually in much better shape than your average used car.
I thought that most folks would treat a rental car with little to no respect, but the thing i didn’t realize is that it is exactly the opposite! Most people don’t cough up the extra cash to get all the extra insurance and whatnot on the car, so they actually treat it with more care than they usually would.
I went on down to Budget rent-a-car and got a 2008 Dodge Charger for $14,000. The closest deal I could find for a 2008 charger with twice the mileage on it was $16,000 and change, so I saved a couple thousand bucks for a well maintained car that I love to drive! Seriously, check out the rental places around town if you are looking for a new car because buying a rental car can save you a big chunk of change!
