Rental car companies are constantly upgrading their fleets and many people buy from them as a cheap alternative to have a relatively new car. Here are ten pros and cons about buying from rental companies.

Pro – You get a relatively new car at a greatly discounted price.

Con – Many people drive rental cars extremely hard and cause excessive wear on the vehicles.

Pro – The maintenance for the car was likely meticulously kept up on as it is required by most corporate rental companies.

Con – No warranty will come with the car because it is almost surely outside of the limits of the original manufacturer’s warranty.

Pro – As new vehicles when they are bough by rental companies, they generally have all of the warranty work completed before you buy it, so you don’t have to worry about recalls that have already happened.

Con – The mileage on the car will likely be high and the engine and other components may be “tired” and need rebuilt or replaced to be like new again.

Pro – You can be sure that the car is in relatively good condition (aesthetically) because of the detail services performed at the rental companies’ lots.

Pro – Damaged parts are going to be almost non-existent because any accident would be covered by the insurance company that the rental companies use.

Con – The car may have been involved in one or more accidents and simply repaired to look good without your knowledge.

Pro – Many rental companies can supply you with a complete account of the life of the vehicle as they bought it new to add to their fleet so you can be sure that everything was taken care of properly.
